Pop-up canopies are designed for quick assembly, but proper technique makes the difference between a sturdy shelter and a wobbly one. Here is how to set up your canopy like a pro.

What You Need

Step-by-Step Setup

Step 1: Choose Your Location

Find a flat, level surface. Check for overhead hazards like tree branches or power lines. If setting up on grass or dirt, you can use ground stakes. On concrete or pavement, you will need tent weights.

Step 2: Extend the Frame

Place the frame on the ground and extend all four legs partially. Do not fully extend yet. Make sure the frame is oriented correctly with the canopy top facing up.

Step 3: Attach the Canopy Top

With the frame partially extended, attach the canopy top using the velcro straps at each corner. Make sure the top is centered and all straps are secured.

Step 4: Extend to Full Height

With two people, each grab two diagonal corners and lift while stepping back. The frame will extend to its full footprint. Then adjust the height by sliding the leg extenders to your desired height setting.

Step 5: Secure the Canopy

On grass: Drive ground stakes through the holes in the foot pads at a 45-degree angle away from the tent. On hard surfaces: Place tent weights on each leg or fill sandbag weights and attach them to the frame.

Step 6: Final Adjustments

Check that all legs are at the same height. Tighten any loose straps on the canopy top. Verify the tent is stable by gently pushing on the frame.
